Level 1 and Level 2 learning programmes – updated information for school website
At Coláiste Pobail Setanta, we provide the Level 1 Learning Programmes (L1LP) and Level 2 Learning Programmes (L2LP) at both Junior and Senior Cycle.
It is an inclusive curriculum that is designed for students with general learning difficulties and may find accessing the mainstream curriculum challenging.
At Junior Cycle the Priority Learning Units (PLU’s) are as follows:
Priority Learning Units (PLUs) are the core building blocks of Ireland’s Level 2 Learning Programme. They represent essential areas of learning that help students develop practical, social, and personal skills for everyday life. This is monitored through continuous assessment, examples of work, teacher observation, and student portfolios.
They focus on functional skills rather than academic subjects, ensuring learners gain independence and confidence.
The same can be said about the Senior Cycle Level 1 and Level 2 programmes (SCL1LP & SCL2LP). Both programmes are designed as follow-on pathways for students who completed L1LP or L2LP at Junior Cycle. They provide continuity and progression for learners with significant special educational needs, ensuring they have meaningful learning experiences at Senior Cycle.
Evidence of learning is gathered in a portfolio. Certification is based on completion of modules and learning outcomes, not traditional exams and is designed to be flexible and integrated.
